A standard PC monitor today has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, which is the same as the TV industry's definitions for 1080p and Full HD movies. As prices drop, some people are opting for Quad HD (2560 x 1440) and Ultra HD (3840 x 2160). There are also ultra-wide (2560 x 1080) that avoid having two screens side by side. Unless you're on a really tight budget, there's no point in buying anything smaller than 24 inches because you won't save space. In fact, today's smaller frames offer larger screens without increasing the overall size of the monitor. But if you're going for a 27-inch or larger display, go for Quad HD resolution instead of Full HD...or sit further away from the screen.
Most PC monitors under $200 have a refresh rate of 60 Hz, which is fine for most cases. Doubling it to 120 Hz makes things smoother, but it means your PC has to send twice as many frames per second to the screen. A PC running a popular game at, say, 88 fps won't do that, even if the monitor can handle it. It's clearly better to have a monitor with a higher refresh rate, but it doesn't make much practical difference to people who aren't gamers.
Obviously, you need to connect the monitor to your CPU, and there are many ways to do that. The main ones for your needs are VGA, DVI, DisplayPort, and HDMI. Check your PC to see which ones you can use. It's unlikely you'll need VGA or DVI unless you have an older PC. HDMI and, in particular, DisplayPort are better options. HDMI comes from the TV industry and DisplayPort is royalty free.
PC monitor manufacturers offer all sorts of features to make products more attractive to certain users. Examples include curved screens, built-in speakers, built-in TV set-top boxes, USB ports, and so on. Most of them also increase the price, so don't buy them if you don't need them. Some people prefer monitors with stands that allow you to raise, lower or tilt the screen easily. There is also the traditional workaround of placing the monitor on a few books.
The size of the PC screen under 200 euros is one of the most important criteria for choosing your screen. It is expressed in inches and corresponds to the diagonal of the screen. The rule for converting an inch into centimeters is simple, 1 inch is equal to 2.54 cm. Thus, a 34-inch screen measures a more than 86 centimeters. You can do the calculation yourself.
It is dependent on two elements:
Colorimetric space
Also called "Gamut": it is the extent of the colors which the screen can display. It is expressed in percentage of the space sRGB (or sRGB in English) or Adobe RGB. This last one allows to display more colors, in particular certain very saturated colors. But it is judicious only in a professional context, for a graphic designer for example who wishes a total respect of the colors in the chain of treatment of the image.
The colorimetric precision
The majority of the PC screens displays colors coded on 3×8 bits (a channel for each primary color: red, green and blue), which represents more than 16 million reproducible colors. The most advanced models display more than 1 billion, thanks to a coding on 3×10 bits. Here again, only image professionals will benefit from this, provided that they put in place all the tools needed to work in 10-bit and in particular the graphics card (AMD's FirePro pro range or NVIDIA's Quadrp).
The advantage of the flat PC screen is that it is more convenient if you use it to watch TV, movie or just to be a desktop screen. But it is not the choice of gamers at all because they are not really up to date with the curved screen. So that's its drawback.
Curved screens are becoming more and more popular these days. Because many people think that this type of screen is worth it. The advantage of these screens is that they take into account all three dimensions, namely, length, width and height. They also take into consideration the peripheral vision. They are very ideal for playing your favorite games. But its disadvantage is that they are difficult to fix. And their installation requires specific requirements.
Between these two PC screens at less than 200 euros, the choice is obvious that if you want it for a not very particular use, that is to say just a screen to watch your movies it is better to choose a flat screen. If you want to play games, it's best to choose a curved screen.
