The most important criterion is obviously the type of manga. It is absolutely necessary that you first identify the type of manga that corresponds to your needs, or your desire. Indeed, some manga contain adult themes, so in addition to identifying the types that exist on the market (shonen, seinen, shojo, josei and kodomomuke), make sure you also understand the classification system for manga which is very similar to that of video games and movies:
The choice of the genre of manga you want to see should be the next step. This is another important topic that will help narrow down the choices according to your taste. whether it's action, comedy, drama, horror, fantasy, etc. You'll definitely be able to find what you're looking for once you know what genre interests you the most. Of course, a manga will not fit into one genre, it can be several genres at the same time. So help yourself with themes to choose your manga more easily.
The next step would be to choose a theme that would definitely help you find the right manga. By choosing the theme, you choose the setting of the series, whether it is, the future, post-apocalyptic scene, maids, harem, martial arts, androids, psychological, etc. The list literally goes on and on as you have a wide variety to choose from. But once you get past that, it won't be very hard to find what you want.
We can't stress it enough: manga, depending on the storyline, can be for all ages and genres. You must be very careful with the manga you choose. Especially if you are thinking of giving it as a gift.
The
release of the manga can affect the quality of the feeling you will get while reading it. Some older manga may show rather weak characters, or storylines that you can't engage with. However, if you are a beginner or new to manga, reading the classics can be the perfect introduction you are looking for, it can actually help you better understand the development of anime in general.
Think you have a manga story somewhere inside you? Most of us are capable of coming up with a decent script. It takes some skill to get it into print. Here are some tips to help you get the next bestseller out.
Write a story summary
You can't develop your story until you know where it's supposed to go. Your goal? Write a one-paragraph summary of your entire story, omitting details and character specifics. Then take that paragraph and reduce it to one sentence. For example, Dragon Ball Z might be "a group of friends fighting strange enemies to protect the Earth." Does that really cover DBZ? No, but it sums up where the story is going.
Creating character profiles
In order to develop your story, you need to know who your characters are. Where do they come from? Do they have moral values and principles or none at all? A love interest? A best friend or a sworn enemy? What motivates them? Write a full profile as if you were talking to someone else about your guy or girl. Develop their strengths and weaknesses, as these will be useful when you start developing your scenario.
Write your story
For now, don't think about layouts or problems. Just write your story. What is happening? Who is it happening to? Why did she leave or why did he return? Will his powers ever come back? Why did he lose them in the first place? Get all your questions answered on paper first. Then it's time to...
Think about the real problem
With the "big picture" in mind, think about the first problem. You'll need to give your story some context, and you'll want enough current action to keep the reader intrigued for your next episode. Decide how much information you want to provide in your first issue. Got it? You are now ready for the storyboard.
Arrange your storyboard
"Storyboard" is a term that refers to the layout of your manga or comic book. Each panel conveys a certain amount of information and will also contain your illustration. Don't worry about the illustration for now (unless of course you can draw as well as write!). Just focus on the text. Who is saying what to whom? What action scenes will you include? What information will they provide? Break your story down into pieces that you can divide into individual panels.
Put it all together
It's time to put your story and the artwork together. Either find a good anime artist or, if you're feeling adventurous, try drawing your own characters. There are several excellent books that teach drawing, as well as some good online sources. Bring each character to life with various facial expressions and dialogue that you have created in the storyboard.
What about publishing?
Ready to deliver your pilot issue to the masses? Try TOKYOPOP's annual Rising Star of Manga contest or put your manga online by creating your own website. Good luck!
If you're having trouble, start with fan fiction. The characters are already created, so all you have to do is play a game of "what if?" to come up with an alternative scenario.Look at some of your favorite manga and anime series and try to figure out why they are your favorites. Is it the action? The characters? What makes it so great? Don't rush your masterpiece. Sometimes good ideas can come to you, but don't get frustrated if the development process takes longer than you thought.
There are mangas for all tastes, from the darkest ones like Megalopolis to the craziest ones like One Piece. In fact, we can classify them according to their target audience.
Literally meaning "a few years old," shonen (少年) generally refers to young boys under the age of fifteen. Thus, shonen manga are aimed at this demographic. Many of these manga have a young male hero and focus on action, adventure and fighting.
However, comedies and series with female protagonists are becoming more common. Shonen works often have more than a fair share of fanservice. Some popular examples of shonen anime and manga are Dragon Ball, Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Watamote and Attack on Titan
.
the
seinen (青年), on the other hand, refers to young men between the ages of 15 and 24. Breasten anime and manga are more violent and/or psychological in nature than shonen series - although, of course, there are also seinen comedies. So seinen has action and violence, but with a more serious or darker tone, as well as adult content such as sexual situations, graphic violence or foul language.
While shonen series often present characters with an idealized, naive or innocent view of the world, seinen series usually follow protagonists who have to face a reality where the hero does not always save the day. The covers of seinen are often dark and grainy and feature male protagonists. Famous seinen manga include titles such as Berserk, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Hellsing and Gantz
.
Shojo (少女), often translated as "young girl," is the female counterpart of shonen, and anime and manga of this type are aimed at girls between the ages of 10 and 18. These tend to focus on romance and interpersonal relationships - though that doesn't mean they are necessarily without action and adventure.
Shojo works are almost always directed by a woman. However, many male homosexual love stories also fall into the shojo category. Popular shojo works include NANA, Sailor Moon, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Fushigi Yuugi and Ouran High School Host Club
.
Manga of the josei (女性) variety are aimed at adult women. Josei series are often romantic or slice-of-life stories featuring adult women. In general, these works tend to contain more realistic interpersonal relationships (as opposed to the often idealized relationships of shojo) and may cover darker topics such as rape and infidelity.
Traditionally, josei manga have featured mostly female leads. However, more and more of them now have male characters. The male main characters are usually very pretty boys and the stories featuring them often have homosexual undertones. Popular josei series include Loveless, Paradise Kiss, Honey and Clover, 07-Ghost and Makai Ouji: Devils and Realist
.
Literally
meaning
"intended for children," kodomomuke (子 供 向 け) manga are exactly that. They tend to be simple, imaginative stories that teach morals and other core values to young readers.
Sometimes they are original stories, while other times they are adaptations of classic Western literature. Popular children's series include Doraemon, Hello Kitty, Chibi Maruko-chan, Heidi, Girl of the Alps, Anne of Green Gables and Anpanman.
Nearly 40% of all magazines and books published in Japan today would be manga. This means that there is much more manga in Japan than comics in the US.
Manga are usually (but not always) printed in black and white, as opposed to color. They are also generally more visual than comics and contain fewer words. The drawings in manga, however, are generally much simpler than in comics. Manga characters tend to constantly get stronger, while comic book heroes generally maintain their same level of strength, very rarely getting stronger. If a hero in a comic gets stronger, such a change usually doesn't last too long.
Comics, like comic books, consist of a sequence of drawings arranged in interrelated panels to display brief humor or form a narrative, often serialized, with text in speech bubbles and captions. They have a periodic character: they arrive on the shelves on a fixed schedule - usually monthly, although some books may be bi-monthly or even weekly. But their main characteristic is that they are usually always in colour.
Manga or comics, both offer you stories illustrated with hilarious or not so hilarious images. But if you like black and white stories featuring heroes from dramatic angles more in sync with a movie than graphic novels, and if you don't mind reading a story from right to left, then manga is for you.
On the other hand, if you prefer colourful, action-packed comics, those with shorter stories that are traditionally read from left to right, then you may find something to your liking in comic books.
Think about the TV shows, movies and books you already love.
Not just the characters. The manga landscape is as diverse as any other medium in terms of subject matter, narrative and art. Often the easiest way is to go by the preferences you already have. Do you like dark mysteries? There are a ton of them! Dark, gritty? Cute and wacky? Looking for something with a great woman at its center? There are tons of them! These are all good places to start. Look at what you like; there's probably a lot of corresponding manga out there just waiting to be devoured.
Think about the format you would like to read in.
With the
advancement of technology these days, there are many formats on which you can read your favorite comics. For some, reading on a phone, tablet, or whatever is ideal for them. It allows them to be with their favorite hobby anywhere without being encumbered or forced to wait until they get home to finish their story. For others, however, the old-fashioned paper medium is the best. It allows them to keep their childhood memories and there's nothing like a good coffee and a good comic book in hand to savor your break or your vacation. In short, the choice is yours.

The
first manga you read will not necessarily attract you, but don't let that discourage you: move on to another manga, another genre, you may be surprised. Don't hesitate either to talk to friends who know the manga universe, they can help you, give you some tips to facilitate your initiation.

Unlike anime, manga are often published in black and white. Why? Because they are usually published weekly and printing them in color would take too much time and money. Manga is generally quite cheap to publish and only requires a small number of artists to produce. In fact, it may even require only one person to publish it, the mangaka, who is usually both the author and illustrator, and who performs other roles in the publishing process.
The first difference is that a manga, to put it simply, is a comic book while annime is, to put it simply again, an animated drawing. Anime is a particular style of animation that originated in Japan. It is characterized by high contrast, bright colors and thematic elements of science fiction and fantasy.
Manga is considered by some to be more artistically original than anime, just as books are for movies. This is because most mangaka only write original content and many start out self-publishing. In fact, self-published works, or doujinshi, are incredibly popular. Unlike manga, many anime are based on pre-existing stories. This is because it is cheaper to adapt an existing work than to create a completely original script. Also, adaptations are supposed to be a safer investment; because the original work will already have a sequel. Manga is a much faster way to publish a work than anime. A single issue of a manga can be written, drawn and inked in a week. On the other hand, an anime series will usually require months of preparation and work to produce each episode.
It's impossible to say. It depends on the person and the story. The two can be very closely related as many manga are turned into anime, including Black Butler, Attack on Titan, and Dragon Ball, which spawned the Dragon Ball Z anime series. Some fans will love the manga, some will love the anime. Many will love both. One thing is for sure, manga and anime are incredibly popular with audiences in Japan and around the world.
