HDR10+ technology involves applying more metadata to each scene, and then providing a more optimized image quality compared to HDR10.
In order to achieve one of the best HDR experiences on Samsung TVs, the following points must be considered: how well the bright content can be expressed, how well the dark black content can be expressed, and how accurately the different colors can be expressed. These are the key factors that determine the quality of an HDR-enabled Samsung TV.
4K TVs make up the vast majority of Samsung's catalog. These types of TVs have four times the number of pixels as traditional Full HD TVs (1920 x 1080 pixels for Full HD versus 3840 x 2160 pixels for 4K). Even on TV screens of the same size, the image quality of a Samsung 4K TV ends up being more vivid and detailed thanks to the greater pixel density. This difference is especially evident in larger screen TVs. An8K TV is a TV with a screen of 7680 horizontal pixels and 4320 vertical pixels for a total of about 33 million pixels. These are types of UHD TVs that have recently appeared in Samsung's catalog. With four times as many pixels as a 4K TV, Samsung 8K TVs display a sharper and more detailed picture quality. In fact, on Samsung 8K TVs, the pixels are so small that they cannot be distinguished even up close. On TVs of the same size, the pixels on an 8K TV are denser in the same area, allowing for a much more sophisticated and realistic image representation. This provides an overwhelming sense of immersion when watching TV.
All 8K TVs have Upscaling technology, but each TV manufacturer implements their own specific technology to produce 8K quality visuals. In 2019, Samsung introduced AI Upscaling technology on its 8K TVs. This technology uses a method that collects and learns a wide variety of content characteristics by type, then stores them in a database. It later uses that database to process similar types of images again, making it a much more sophisticated scaling process.
ASamsung QLED TV is a Quantum Dot-based TV, and this quantum dot material is what differentiates Samsung QLED TVs from conventional TVs. Quantum dots are ultra-thin semiconductor materials of nanometer size. These dots produce different colors of light depending on the size of the particles; the larger the size, the more red the color, and the smaller the size, the more blue the color.
QLED TVs take advantage of the many unique features offered by Quantum dots, such as "high luminance." Luminance refers to the brightness of a display and this brightness is an important factor affecting other elements of picture quality. The contrast ratio is naturally improved when the brightness is higher. When the light and dark representation of videos and images can be widely expressed, it is called HDR (high dynamic range).
OLED stands for organic light-emitting diode. Surprisingly enough, the "light-emitting diode" part of this name has nothing to do with an LED backlight like it does with QLED and LED TVs. Instead, it refers to the fact that each pixel in an OLED TV is also a tiny LED light; but incredibly thin and can produce both light and color in a single element. In other words, OLED TVs don't need a backlight because each pixel produces its own light.
Only one company currently manufactures OLED panels: LG Display. It sells these panels to its sister company, LG Electronics, which uses them to build some of the best TVs you can buy. But LG Display also sells OLED panels to companies like Sony, Philips, and Panasonic, which is why you'll also see OLED TVs from these companies.
There are several advantages with OLED technology, but most would agree that when it comes to OLED TVs, the biggest advantage is the superb black level that can be achieved. Unlike a QLED or LED TV that has to dim its backlight and block out what's left for dark scenes, an OLED TV simply turns off the pixel. Without a separate backlight, it's also much easier to make an OLED screen flexible.
QLED stands for quantum light-emitting diode. In layman's terms, this means that a QLED TV works almost like a regular LED TV, except that it uses tiny nanoparticles called quantum dots to supercharge its brightness and color. The technology was introduced by Sony in 2013, but soon after, Samsung started selling its own QLED TVs and partnered with other manufacturers for licensing. As a result, you'll also find QLED TVs from Sony, Vizio, Hisense and TCL.
As cool as quantum dots are, a QLED TV still produces light in more or less the same way as a regular LED TV: by using a backlight made up of hundreds (or even thousands) of LEDs, which sits behind a traditional LCD panel.
The LCD panel, essentially millions of tiny shutters that open and close extremely quickly, in conjunction with color filters, creates the image you see by letting just the right amount of light and color escape and reach your eyes. It's a smart system, but it relies on a combination of dimming the LED backlights and using the shutters to block out the remaining light to produce accurate blacks on the screen.
These 2 technologies are impressive in their own way. QLED comes out on top on paper, offering higher brightness, longer life, larger screen sizes and more affordable prices. OLED, on the other hand, has a better viewing angle, deeper black levels, uses less energy and could be better for your health. Both are fantastic, however, the choice will be totally subjective. Samsung QLED TVs are more versatile, but LG OLED TVs are great when you can control the lighting in your room.
