How to choose your LED TV

Before you spend thousands of hours watching the LED TV, spend a few hours choosing it. In this regard, please consider the criteria below.

#1 - The size

As many people will tell you, the bigger the better. In fact, you should base your choice on the space you have in your living room or bedroom as well as your budget. It's often worthwhile to opt for a large LED TV when buying.

#2 - The sound

Sound is an aspect of TVs that isn't talked about much. So if you care about sound, get a TV with a built-in front speaker or sound bar, or make sure it has an HDMI-ARC port so you can use an external speaker.

#3 - The resolution

If you're buying an LED TV, you'll probably need to buy a 4K TV. 4K is literally four times better than the old HD standards. It's not a subtle improvement, it's pretty blatant, especially if it's a good 4K LED TV. They incorporate more pixels and also tend to have wider dynamic ranges and color gamuts, allowing for better viewing experiences, no matter what size your TV is and where you're sitting.

#4 - The HDR compatibility

HDR on your LED TV generates higher contrast in the existing pixels, increasing contrast and color so the end result is more natural, accurate, and deeper. With HDR, the color on an LED TV stays true to form. Without HDR, a TV can't reproduce certain colors realistically. What HDR does for an LED TV is so incredibly spectacular that it's worth exploring further.

#5 - The connectivity

The right LED TV cables and ports really make a difference. Look for Bluetooth compatibility and at least 4 HDMI ports on your LED TV. And if you prefer a 4K LED TV, make sure your HDMI ports support HDMI 2.0.

Older products to consider

Not everyone can afford the latest products. So in this section, you'll find products recommended in previous versions of this guide. They can be interesting choices, especially if you manage to find them on special offer.

Philips 6000 series

This Philips 6000 series LED TV is the best alternative to the Samsung 4K TV. Like the latter, it can stream 4K UHD content and can connect to a network via Wi-Fi.

This Philips product offers brilliant whites and particularly deep blacks. It will undoubtedly offer you a new visual experience, whether you're a big fan of movies, series or a gamer. To fully enjoy the impressive performance of this TV, we recommend investing in other devices that can deliver 4K UHD images.

TD Systems K50DLM8FS Full HD LED TV

Want to invest in a TV that delivers excellent picture quality and saves you money? The TD Systems K50DLM8FS might just be what you're looking for.

This TV can't deliver 4K UHD content, but it's sure to win you over with its exceptionally sharp images, as well as its brilliant whites and remarkably deep blacks.

The maximum resolution of this TD Systems product is 1920 x 1080 (Full HD). It is equipped with three HDMI ports, one VGA port, two USB interfaces and can connect to the internet via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

UE43M5505AK 43

In designing the UE43M5505AK, Samsung has focused on simplicity. The South Korean brand offers a 43" LED panel that can provide images in Full HD 1080p. It benefits from a more or less extensive connectivity and allows you to quickly access the web via Wifi.

In addition to Blu-ray content, this TV offers you the possibility to enjoy VOD and to make small streaming evenings alone, as a couple, with friends or family.

Aesthetically, this Samsung LED TV will add a touch of elegance to your home. Its convenient size is suitable for relatively small living rooms and spacious rooms.

Samsung T24E390EW

Built for multitasking, the Samsung T24E390EW lets you work on your PC while keeping an eye on split-screen TV programs. This TV offers a particularly wide viewing angle (178°) and provides images of quite decent quality.

We only regret its relatively small size, which affects the multitasking experience. A few dozen extra inches would have been a significant plus, especially if you plan to split into different parts to watch different games, shows and movies simultaneously.

LED TV or OLED TV?

LED TV

An LED TV has a backlight combined with signal processing for brightness control in hundreds of small areas of the TV. Thanks to this backlight, it produces images with high contrast and exceptional depth. This ensures a better picture quality. Very practical, this type of TV is the most advanced and affordable technology for all users.

Its viewing angle is significantly improved, as you can watch it at more than 75° without contrast degradation. However, LED TVs are not too suitable for outdoor viewing. Indeed, even if some manufacturers boast of their anti-reflection technology, the images remain less sharp and more saturated in color in daylight. On the other hand, LED TVs are generally small in size, between 19 and 50 inches.

OLED TV

Unlike LED TVs, OLED TVs do not need a backlight. Flatter and lighter, this type of TV displays a perfect black. Indeed, if a part of the screen must be dark, it turns off the pixels on that area. Its main advantage is that it produces its own light. It has a wide field of vision, about 170 °. In addition, it has a superior responsiveness compared to other TVs (0.1 ms of remanence time).

Of course, OLED TVs have their drawbacks. Indeed, it may be subject to color degradation. This can affect the brightness and color balance over time. Moreover, if an image is displayed at high brightness for a while, it can create a burn-in or marking on the screen.

Verdict

If you want to have a good quality of brightness with a clearer vision and at the same time comfortable, choose an OLED TV. Choose LED TV to consume up to 50% less energy while enjoying a sharp image.

Why buy a LED TV?

New technology

An LED TV is an LCD TV with a new light or more uniform lighting technology for the screen. The original LCD TV that many of us know had CCFL lighting in the background which has now been replaced by the new LED technology. In relation to this system, "LED" is an abbreviation for "Light Emitting Diode" which represents an electronic component. It has the particularity to diffuse light from the moment it is powered by an electric current.

Energy efficient

LED TVs are less expensive to use. They are more energy efficient and cost you less on the electricity bill. And technically, it consumes less than 40% of energy without affecting the image resolution and brightness of the monitor. Otherwise, its contrast ratio is higher and it displays deeper blacks. In the long run, you'll end up saving a pretty penny.

Slim size

There are several types of LED technologies. First, EDGE LED technology with its diodes located on the edge of the LCD panel. It allows to gain in thickness in order to acquire thinner screens, less than 3 centimeters. Secondly, the Full LED technology whose diodes are exposed on the entire surface of the LCD panel. A LED TV is therefore much thinner than an ordinary LCD TV. If you were to compare a picture of an LED and LCD TV side by side, you would see a huge difference. This makes them even better for hanging on walls.

Easy to install

LED TVs can easily be hung on your wall, placed on rather smaller TV stands, and can be moved more quickly due to their lower weight. This is acceptable to be an advantage for which LED TVs are becoming more and more popular.

Good picture quality

What is certain is that the picture on an LED TV is superior to that of the CCFL TV. The picture will be clearer and the lighting better, which is a huge selling factor.

Tips

Adjust the brightness of your TV.

Generally, the brightness is always set to the maximum in the default settings of LED TVs. This negatively affects their longevity, as the motor is overloaded unnecessarily. By lowering the brightness level, you can optimize the longevity of your TV to some extent.

Make sure the location you choose is big enough for your TV.

Avoid

as much as possible locations that are too fair. For example, if you want to place it in a wall niche, make sure the niche is large enough to accommodate the TV and stand. Don't forget the TV's accessories when you make your measurements: the screen, the stand or the bracket. And if the stand is removable, make sure there's enough room to angle the TV left, right, up or down as needed.

Attentive to the type of connection ports on your TV.

If

you're going with a 4K TV, make sure it supports HDMI 2.0. This will make it easier for you to adapt it to ultra HD sources in the future if needed. Buying a TV is an investment, so make sure you get the most out of it for as long as possible. It would be a waste to have to change it every four mornings because you didn't pay enough attention to this or that detail.

Provide room for cables.

To

keep the cables that go in and out of your TV from hanging around anywhere and getting tangled up, provide a dedicated storage space. Especially if you have an array of connected devices, such as a Blu-ray player and game console. Some TVs come with a cable cover (or covers), it's very handy for keeping cables tidy.

Use a microfiber cloth.

Don

't forget to dust your TV regularly. Dust can get on the components of the TV and damage it. However, be careful not to clean it just any old way, use a microfiber cloth. They are easy to use and effective. You can find them in any hardware store at a very low price.

FAQ

How to clean the screen of a LED TV?

LED screens are particularly delicate and cannot withstand traditional wet cleaning. To keep your LED TV screen looking like new without damaging it, here's what to do. First of all, you should use a microfiber cloth, electrostatic duster or pre-moistened wipes.

Dust the TV with a soft, drymicrofiber clothor electrostatic duster. Clean stubborn stains with a pre-moistened wipe designed for electronics. The screen of LED TVs, although made of glass, has an anti-reflective coating that can be damaged by traditional cleaning products. It is best to always dry clean.

How to connect hi-fi system to a LED TV?

Thetwo most common methods of connecting a stereo to a LED TV are:

  • HDMI connection using Audio Return Channel (ARC): Both connected devices must support ARC. HDMI ports may be marked with ARC to indicate which one to use. If not, check your product manual or specifications to see if ARC is supported.
  • Connecting with an optical digital cable or coaxial digital cable (digital audio): Connect a coaxial digital cable, an optical digital cable to the audio output jack on your LED TV. Connect the other end of the cable to the corresponding jacks on the stereo system. Depending on your device, the audio input may be labeled TV INPUT or VIDEO INPUT.

Is it worth repairing a cracked LED TV screen?

Generally speaking, there is only a 5% chance of repairing the cracked or broken screen of an LED TV. It is better to replace your broken screen slab with a new one. If you still decide to repair it yourself or call a technician, there will be a high chance of problems after a few days.

How to choose the size of your LED TV?

Thesize of your LED TV will ultimately be limited by the size of the available models, especially as they get bigger. The most common LED TV sizes are 42, 50, 55, 65 and 75 inches. You can find models between these sizes, but they are much rarer. When choosing the size of an LED TV, consider the room in which the LED TV will be placed. As long as the furniture in that room is not permanently attached to the floor - and you're willing to move it around, you have some flexibility in the size of the LEV TV you can get.
