An ecological means of transport, a tool for getting away from it all in the open air and in nature, and an excellent subject of conversation for socializing, the road bike is becoming a daily partner. But for it to meet your expectations, some criteria must be observed.

The choice of frame material is particularly important because it forms the backbone of your bike. Indeed, it connects the saddle, the wheels and the pedals. It must therefore meet a requirement of robustness and reliability to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Quand nettoyer son vélo de route et avec quels matériels ?

Il faut nettoyer après chaque sortie si vous utilisez le vélo de route de manière intensive. D'ailleurs, le simple fait de ranger le vélo à la maison nécessite un nettoyage minutieux. Si vous utilisez le vélo au quotidien, lavez-le une fois par semaine. Si vous le prenez 2 ou 3 fois par semaine, nettoyez-le tous les mois.

Peu importe le prix du vélo, les équipements nécessaires à son nettoyage restent les mêmes. Il vous faudra notamment un seau, un chiffon propre et sec, des brosses pour vélo, des éponges, des sprays vélo ou des lingettes nettoyantes, un dégraissant, du lubrifiant vélo, de la graisse et de l'huile pour chaîne de vélo. Equipez-vous d'un outil multifonction pour vélo, cela vous sauvera la mise dans bien des situations !

Installez-le vélo de route et démontez-le

Avant de démonter le vélo, installez-le dans un endroit propre et sec. Il doit y avoir assez de place pour se déplacer sans problème. Un support vélo est vivement conseillé. Si vous n'en avez pas, contentez-vous de retourner le vélo ou posez-le contre un mur ou un arbre.

Enlevez les roues. Disposez le repose-chaîne sur la patte arrière droite du cadre de votre vélo. Si vous n'utilisez pas de support de vélo, enlevez les roues et laissez pendre délicatement la chaîne. Démontez ensuite les accessoires lavables, comme le bidon, la sacoche ou le GPS.

Le dégraissage

Appliquez du dégraissant vélo ou du dégrippant WD40 sur les pignons arrière, les plateaux et le dérailleur. Aidez-vous d'une brosse à poils souples. Essayez d'atteindre l'intégralité de la transmission tout en frottant délicatement.

Pour le dégraissage de la chaîne, vous avez le choix entre 2 options. La première consiste à brosser et frotter la chaîne en faisant tourner le pédalier. La seconde nécessite un boîtier nettoyant qui va frotter minutieusement le dessus, le dessous et l'intérieur de la chaîne.

Dans les 2 cas, laissez le dégraissant agir 5 min sur tous les endroits traités. En général, laisser au dégraissant le temps d'agir suffit pour préserver les pièces concernées. Mais si vous avez de gros dépôts noirs, il faudra laisser le produit agir plus longtemps.

Le premier rinçage

Commencez le rinçage si et seulement si le dégraissant a dissous la graisse. Rincez en particulier les zones dégraissées pour vous débarrasser du dégraissant. Le tuyau d'arrosage est conseillé, voire un nettoyeur haute pression avec un réglage modéré pour ne pas abîmer les composants fragiles. Un seau d'eau et une éponge suffisent pour le cadre et les roues.

Frottez les pièces de votre vélo de route

Les saletés les plus visibles devraient avoir disparu après ce premier rinçage. Il est temps de frotter avec de l'huile de coude et un nettoyant vélo. Appliquez le produit sur une éponge puis frottez la chaîne, les plateaux, les rayons et les roues. Préférez une brosse ronde pour les moyeux et les recoins difficiles d'accès. La brosse dure est indiquée pour les pignons arrière et les plateaux.

Le second rinçage et le séchage

Après voir frotté, effectuez un dernier rinçage afin d'éliminer toute trace de dégrippant ou nettoyant. En effet, ces produits auront un impact tout aussi néfaste que les salissures à long terme. N'hésitez pas à rincer abondamment, de haut en bas pour être sûr de ne rien rater.

Une fois le rinçage terminé, essuyez le vélo. Commencez par la chaîne, les étriers et les dérailleurs. Séchez ensuite le cadre et éliminez toute trace visible. N'hésitez pas à mettre le vélo à l'envers pour empêcher l'eau de stagner dans les tubes du cadre. Assurez-vous également que les trous d'aération sous le vélo soient bien débouchés pour évacuer l'eau.


Comment entretenir un vélo de route ?


Après le nettoyage et une fois le vélo de route bien sec, il vous faudra lubrifier de nombreux éléments, en particulier la transmission. Les performances et la longévité du vélo en dépendent.

La chaîne

Utilisez une huile spéciale chaîne, de préférence en silicone. Ce type d’huile est capable de pénétrer en profondeur jusque dans les maillons. Versez le lubrifiant au goutte-à-goutte tout en gardant la chaîne légèrement en mouvement. N’oubliez pas de régler pignons et plateaux pour répartir l’huile à tous les niveaux. Puis, tournez la chaîne dans les 2 sens.

Les câbles et les gaines

Versez une goutte d’huile à l’entrée et à la sortie des gaines de freins et de dérailleur. Actionnez les mécanismes concernés pour une meilleure pénétration de l’huile et une meilleure protection. Pour les autres éléments comme les câbles et les freins, du lubrifiant au téflon ou le spray WD40 feront l’affaire.

Les dérailleurs

Versez quelques gouttes d’huile du côté où le levier du dérailleur pivote. Cela vous préservera des blocages intempestifs tout en augmentant le couple de serrage. Visez particulièrement les articulations et les ressorts, mais n’abusez pas non plus !

Les freins

Une goutte sur le pivot des étriers de freins suffit. Pour les freins hydrauliques, purgez le liquide de frein périodiquement. Utilisez pour cela un set universel de purge de freins hydrauliques avec de l’huile minérale ou 1 L de liquide minéral de purge. Et enlevez les résidus du liquide de frein avec nettoyant pour freins à disque biodégradable.


Comment faire les bons réglages sur un vélo de route ?


Le serrage

Pour que tout soit en ordre sur votre vélo de route, prenez le temps de vérifier régulièrement le serrage de la selle et de la tige de selle, la potence, les attaches rapides ou écrous de roues, les leviers de freins, les manivelles et les pédales, les vis de fixation des dérailleurs ainsi que le panier, le porte-bagage et autres garde-boue.

Profitez de ce moment pour vérifier le bon alignement du guidon et de la roue avant. Positionnez le guidon de façon classique, à un angle de 90° par rapport au cadre. La roue avant devrait être parfaitement parallèle au cadre si l’alignement est bon.

Les pneus

Avec le temps, les pneus perdent de la pression. Raison pour laquelle il faut vérifier la pression des pneus tous les mois. En général, la pression maximale d’un pneu est inscrite sur son flanc. Pour un vélo de route, elle varie entre 6 et 8 bars. Une pompe avec manomètre sera nécessaire pour gonfler à la bonne pression.

Observez s’il reste encore des rainures pour évacuer l’eau en cas de pluie. Dans le cas contraire, achetez un nouveau pneu. Vérifiez également la présence d’usure sur les flancs près de la jante. En général, cela signifie que le patin touche le pneu. Notez aussi que des fissures apparaissent sur les pneus secs. Cela survient après quelques années.

En dernier lieu, tournez chaque roue et visualisez l’alignement du patin par rapport à la jante. La jante bougera de droite à gauche si la roue est voilée. Cela peut ralentir votre vélo, le faire trembler à haute vitesse ou continuer à se voiler et aggraver l’état de la roue. Enfin, il y a du saut si la jante bouge de haut en bas par rapport au patin.

Les câbles

Contentez-vous d’un examen visuel. Regardez les câbles pour détecter toute trace d’effilochage, en particulier sur l’écrou de fixation des dérailleurs. Vous devrez obligatoirement remplacer un câble effiloché. Profitez de ce contrôle pour vérifier l’état de vos gaines de câble.

L’usure des dents et de la chaîne

Les plateaux, les pignons et les galets du dérailleur ont tous des dents. Vérifiez l’usure de ces dernières via un contrôle visuel. Des dents usées ou déformées peuvent provoquer un craquement au mauvais passage, un saut de chaîne, voire un déraillement lors de vos sorties avec votre vélo de route. En cas d’usure importante des dents sur une pièce, remplacez-la.

Vérifiez également l’étirement de la chaîne avec un testeur d’usure de chaîne de vélo. Si vous n’en avez pas, tirez sur la chaîne quand elle se trouve sur le grand plateau. Elle reste collée si elle est neuve. Une chaîne étirée à partir de 1% est considérée comme usée. Continuer de rouler avec une telle pièce finira par abîmer les pignons ou les plateaux.

Le passage des vitesses

Le passage des vitesses termine la révision de la transmission d'un vélo de route. Si possible, servez-vous d’un pied d’atelier vélo. Réglez les butées comme il faut et passez les vitesses tour à tour. Tout est nickel si le changement se fait sans cliquetis. Dans le cas contraire, il faudra réparer ou remplacer.

Les freins

Trois situations peuvent se produire :

  • Si votre vélo de route a des freins à jante, contrôlez visuellement l’état des patins avant de rouler. Les patins usés n’ont plus de rainures apparentes sur les stries. Il faudra alors les remplacer. Vérifiez en même temps la position des patins, toujours centrés sur la jante et sans toucher le pneu ni être dans le vide.
  • Dans le cas des freins à disque, contrôlez de visu l’usure des plaquettes. Remplacez-les s’il y a moins de 1 mm de garnitures. Vérifiez également le centrage du disque si besoin ainsi qu’un éventuel voilage. Enfin, nettoyez les plaquettes avec de l’acétone.
  • Concernant les freins hydrauliques, repérez les fuites éventuelles de liquide de freins. N’oubliez pas de vérifier le point de contact. Sachez également que vous devez purger le système hydraulique une fois par an.

La jante et les rayons

Réviser les jantes consiste essentiellement à détecter la présence d’impacts ou de fissures. Un impact survient généralement avec un pneu dégonflé. En cas de fissure ou d’impact important, remplacez la jante concernée.

En ce qui concerne les rayons, assurez-vous qu’aucun n’est cassé. Cela peut être dû à l’introduction d’un morceau de bois entre les rayons pendant que vous roulez, à une usure naturelle ou à une tension mal équilibrée. Ne roulez jamais avec un rayon cassé.

Repérez les jeux

Commencez par les moyeux des roues de votre vélo de route. En prenant la roue par la jante, secouez-la latéralement. Resserrez les cônes de la roue en cas de jeu, même minime. Vérifiez si la roue n’a pas été trop serrée en la faisant tourner. Une roue trop serrée n’aura pas une rotation naturellement fluide.

Pour trouver un jeu dans la direction, bloquez la roue avant avec les freins avant. Essayez ensuite d’avancer et de reculer, les mains posées sur le guidon. Votre direction a du jeu si vous sentez un mouvement d’avant en arrière. Vous devrez alors serrer ou desserrer la direction.

Pour finir, contrôlez le pédalier pour détecter la présence éventuelle de jeu. Saisissez la manivelle côté pédale et secouez-la latéralement. Ajustez le serrage du boîtier de pédalier si vous sentez du jeu. Un pédalier trop serré ne tournera pas correctement. Parfois, ce phénomène est réglé en graissant le mécanisme.
