The more degraded your surface is, the thicker it will have to be in order to erase all the surface defects. Not all coatings are created equal. Many so-called "multi-layer" systems often require several passes to erase all the defects.
While these coatings are often more economical, they have less mechanical strength than epoxy mortars. Most importantly, multiple passes/coatings to achieve the desired result will increase the downtime of your floor, and therefore the operating loss that this entails.
Epoxy mortars allow a repair in a single pass for a reduced downtime of your production surfaces. In order for your investment to last over time, it is essential that the epoxy system you choose is in line with your mechanical and/or chemical constraints.
There are 4 parameters of mechanical resistance to consider, which are traffic intensity, impact intensity, punching intensity (static or moving loads) and sliding intensity (displacement without rolling).
Not all supports are compatible with epoxy resin. Epoxies have the advantage of strength which gives them a fairly low expansion coefficient. Therefore, they should never be applied on a covering with a higher coefficient of expansion: flexible floor, polyurethane or methacrylate resin, bituminous covering, wooden floor, etc...
In the presence of these types of coating, prior dismantling is essential in order to prevent any damage and to find a suitable support for the application of an epoxy resin coating. However, it is possible to apply epoxy resin (self-leveling or mortar) on tiles, as long as the tiles are stable and do not sound hollow.
